"Bring over some of your old Motown records..."

July 14th, 2008 (02:46 pm)

It was a good weekend - made especially good by it being long, what with my day off and trip to Glasgow on Friday, which I'm still feeling fairly positive about. I've done all I can to try and land this job now - I just have to sit back and wait now, and hope for the best. But whatever happens, I shouldn't let life grind me down too much. Saturday and Sunday were both good and relaxing and fun, and there's a lot of good stuff in my life that makes the bad a bit more bearable.

I wasn't looking forward to work today, but it's been OK, so that's good.

I'm keen to revive some dormant creative projects, so I did some more zine-type things last night, putting in some contributions from [info]karcy who had sent me a couple of poems. I re-typed them on my manual typewriter, to go along with the lo-fi nature of the thing. Looking good. :) Let me just tell you all right now what great fun manual typewriters are! Far more character than a computer. The results are very tactile and completely one-off, and I love little things like the clatter of the thing while you're working, the bell, and even the smell of the machine. It knackers your fingers after a while, but hey - it's a lot of fun to use and it was a fiver well-spent. I made a couple of mistakes, but as I needed to reduce the page in size, I scanned it and Photoshopped the mistakes away. I know it's cheating, but I didn't have any Tipp-Ex.

More zine contributions would be welcome. Next thing to do is type up my Morrissey and Siouxsie concert reviews.

I'm itching to do some photography projects as well - ideas are brewing around railway stations for this one, especially small and quiet railway stations which always have a bit of atmosphere.

Abby has been busy this morning sorting out things for our holiday next month. We're spending a week on South Uist, in the Outer Hebrides. This has largely been financed by her dad and her uncle, which is brilliant because it's an amazingly expensive part of the world to visit. We're flying to Barra via Glasgow, staying overnight in a hotel in Barra, and then going by ferry to Eriskay where we pick up a hire car and then spend a week in a cottage on South Uist with Abby's cousin Luisa and her boyfriend. Cool cool cool. There's going to be 20-odd other relatives around, including a posse from America, so I'm quite excited about meeting them all. And there's caches as well! Not many, but one or two.

Flying to Barra is quite an experience, apparently, as it's one of only two airports in the world where the plane lands on the beach. The planes concerned are 20-seat Twin Otters. Sounds like it beats your average SqueezyJet aviation experience hands down.

Better be off for now. There's a new cache near home that hasn't been found yet, so I hope to be first-to-find on it later on my way home from work. Wish me luck...
